René is one of the world’s leading scientists in biotechnology. He holds a doctorate in chemistry from University of Berne in Switzerland. He is a co-founder and executive of FGen, a biotechnology spin-off of the ETH Zürich, that developed the nanoliter reactor (NLR) research methodology. In 2022, FGen was bought by US-based Ginkgo Bioworks. René has over 20 years of experience in management and has extensive knowledge of the commercial side of biotechnology.
René loves sailing the oceans, especially the Caribbean, exploring unknown nature and cultures and testing the elements of water and wind. This is a good counterbalance to the complex day-to-day work of a biotechnologist. When on solid ground, René also likes to taste wine and work on his oenology skills.
René’s home base is Zürich (Switzerland).
